I know this.
The dog sleeps at the bottom of the stairs.
Has, every night, for years.
Still, my tip toed descents in search of late night sustenance always end the same.

This is my first submission for a Trifecta writing challenge. For the weekend challenge we're asking for exactly thirty-three words written in first person narrative.
tattle tale dog! :)
ReplyDeleteBarbara, She is! She forgets I step on her too:)
DeleteThanks for your comment!
Doggie Narc! Silly pup. The best spot is at the end of the bed NOT the stairs.
ReplyDeleteShe'll never learn either-just like me:) Thank you Jennifer!!!
ReplyDeleteIs that you yelping or the dog? Well done.
ReplyDeleteSo true!! Lots of yelping from both of us!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!!
Ouch!Bad dog giving away your nocturnal adventures;-)Next time, try bribing her or maybe carrying a flashlight?:-)Loved this cute take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteA flashlight is a great idea:) I'm so glad you stopped by!
DeleteHehe so funny! What a fun writing challenge :)
ReplyDeleteTammy, thank you so much!!
DeleteVery funny. Love how you started out with "I know this".
ReplyDeleteThank you Kymm! I wish I could remember that Willow is there;) Thanks for stopping by!
Deletea cat would not put up with that
ReplyDeleteAnd cats have those sharp claws, too...
DeleteThanks for stopping by. I'm new to this appreciate the comment.
This is great!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!
DeletePoor little bugga :-( (Aussie term) ...I mean Willow, I know you know and probably Willow knows that sleeping there can cause bodily harm...bless em..thanks for posting about your fur-baby. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for your comment!!
DeleteWillow is almost 17, too-so I think she can't hear me coming down the stairs-and I forget she's there! Poor girl:)
You aced it in spades!
ReplyDeleteDawn-that means so much to me! Thank you, my friend!! xx
DeleteOh I do hope you did not hurt yourself either making you yelp. :) B
ReplyDeleteMostly lots of scuffling, B. The more we try to get out of each others way the more noise we make, lol! Thanks for commenting:)
DeleteI'm like this with my cats sometimes! (: Poor dears lol
ReplyDeleteLuckily, they always forgive us, the sweethearts:) Draug, thanks for your comment!
ReplyDeleteLOL, poor pup! Although, at the bottom of the stairs is a rather unfortunate place to sleep...
ReplyDeleteIt is, Lisa-and her fur is dark so she blends into the shadows too. It will be sad some day when she isn't there to trip on any more:(
ReplyDeleteCute! And I feel for you - I have 3 dogs that hang out on my side of the bed. Any nighttime excursion usually involves tripping over multiple paws and tails! Great take on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne, thank you! I can relate! I have two dogs, and I've tripped over both of them at the same time, though in the the of the moment-with paws and tails flailing-it seems more like a dozen canines are under foot!
DeleteI got a good chuckle out of this entry. Thanks for doing such a great job with the prompt.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Tom! I appreciate it!
Deletefunny and true.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann! I take it you've been there too:)
DeleteBetween the cat and the dog I'm not sure which one gets stepped on the most at night!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny Jess! We have a guinea pig and a parakeet too, but they are up high, and out of reach:) I think Willow sees getting stepped on as a form of affection, too;)
DeleteYep, happens here too. I think its so you dont get too far away from them.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right Renee. Willow worries that if we don't know she is around, we won't feed her. Poor pup. She hasn't missed a meal yet:)
DeleteThis is wonderful. I don't know how many times I have actually done this too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donetta! And I'm glad I'm not the only one!
DeleteMade me smile. You would think the dog would have the sense to sleep somewhere different!
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I agree! Poor Willow is a few biscuits shy of a full box;)
DeleteThis is why I carry my phone along for any night trips (no pun intended!)
ReplyDeleteWell done!
That's a good one!! And thank you so much!!
DeleteI tend to step on cats, not dogs. But the result is the same. This made me smile!
ReplyDeleteYour comment made me smile-that's funny! Thanks!!
DeleteYour dog, my cat... you'd think we'd learn.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Trifecta! Glad you are joining the fun.
Tara-thank you so much!! And I agree-maybe one day...
DeleteGosh yes I know.. We have a creaky floor board to avoid and I said to my OH the other night that it's worse than having a baby in the house..
ReplyDeleteWe pander to our little doggy too much I fear.
Nice writing..x
Thanks Rosalind! We pander to both of our too much too-but I guess they really are like our babies:)
DeleteHa! This is great. I stup my toe in the same place every night too!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who never learns...;) Thank you so much!
DeleteHa! If I had a nickel for every time I've stepped on that one creaky floorboard over the 10 years we've lived in this house... Well, maybe I could afford to have it fixed. Great job with your first Trifextra, and welcome!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny!
DeleteWe've lived in our house almost that long too, and it creaks a lot, especially at night. When I'm alone...Not that poor Willow, sleeping soundly at the bottom of the stairs, would be of much use;)
Thank you so much for your comment, and for the nice welcome too!
Oh Lord do I know this very well. Toys everywhere and I look right at them before going to bed and step on them every single time I have to tiptoe to the bathroom at midnight.
