Amnesia

I know this.

The dog sleeps at the bottom of the stairs.

Has, every night, for years.

Still, my tip toed descents in search of late night sustenance always end the same.

Yelp!

This is my first submission for a Trifecta writing challenge. For the weekend challenge we're asking for exactly thirty-three words written in first person narrative.

  2. Doggie Narc! Silly pup. The best spot is at the end of the bed NOT the stairs.

Willow is almost 17, too-so I think she can't hear me coming down the stairs-and I forget she's there! Poor girl:)

  16. LOL, poor pup! Although, at the bottom of the stairs is a rather unfortunate place to sleep...

  17. It is, Lisa-and her fur is dark so she blends into the shadows too. It will be sad some day when she isn't there to trip on any more:(

  18. Cute! And I feel for you - I have 3 dogs that hang out on my side of the bed. Any nighttime excursion usually involves tripping over multiple paws and tails! Great take on the prompt!

    1. Suzanne, thank you! I can relate! I have two dogs, and I've tripped over both of them at the same time, though in the the of the moment-with paws and tails flailing-it seems more like a dozen canines are under foot!

  20. Between the cat and the dog I'm not sure which one gets stepped on the most at night!

    1. That's funny Jess! We have a guinea pig and a parakeet too, but they are up high, and out of reach:) I think Willow sees getting stepped on as a form of affection, too;)

  21. Yep, happens here too. I think its so you dont get too far away from them.

    1. I think you are right Renee. Willow worries that if we don't know she is around, we won't feed her. Poor pup. She hasn't missed a meal yet:)

  27. Gosh yes I know.. We have a creaky floor board to avoid and I said to my OH the other night that it's worse than having a baby in the house..

We pander to our little doggy too much I fear.

    Nice writing..x

  29. Ha! If I had a nickel for every time I've stepped on that one creaky floorboard over the 10 years we've lived in this house... Well, maybe I could afford to have it fixed. Great job with your first Trifextra, and welcome!

    1. That's funny!

We've lived in our house almost that long too, and it creaks a lot, especially at night. When I'm alone...Not that poor Willow, sleeping soundly at the bottom of the stairs, would be of much use;)

Thank you so much for your comment, and for the nice welcome too!

  30. Oh Lord do I know this very well. Toys everywhere and I look right at them before going to bed and step on them every single time I have to tiptoe to the bathroom at midnight.
